Frequently Asked Questions

What distinguishes Allegheny Graphics from other web designers?

AG's most defining characteristic is that it provides both a product and a service. Allegheny Graphics Website Design backs all of its websites with a Website Management Plan. Allegheny Graphics also has expertise in marketing and advertising. As an effective mass communicator, Allegheny Graphics composes unique and versatile websites that are remembered and revisited.

What is a domain name?

To draw an analogy, a domain name is like a phone number. To aid human memory, people often choose phone numbers that correspond to words or abrupt phrases. For example, 1-800-ALLTEL-5 corresponds to the phone number 1-800-255-8355 and is easier to remember. Domain names were implemented so that we do not have to remember long number sequences to access websites. Domain names correspond to a set of 4-12 digit number sequences known as Internet Protocol Addresses. Because each domain name refers to a unique Internet Protocol Address, no two websites can have the same domain name.

This means that this website is also accessible by its Internet Protocol Address: http://206.67.234.194. In Allegheny Graphics' case, all of our domain names point to the Internet Protocol Address 206.67.234.94. Since our other domains point to 206.67.234.194, the website is also accessible by:

Will I need to purchase a domain name?

No. With AG’s Website Management Plan, domain purchasing, configuration, and renewal are all handled by AG. Though Allegheny Graphics will control and pay for a domain name, ownership of the domain name will remain with the respective client. Clients do not have to be concerned about domain names financially or for any other reason.

What is website hosting?

Website hosting refers to the physical space where your website files will be stored. A "host" is a remote computer, also known as a server. Your domain name is configured to point to this host. Everytime a viewer types your domain name into his or her web browser, the host sends the requested files.

Will I need to purchase website hosting as website design client?

No. Hosting is included with AG’s Website Management Plan. Website design clients do not have to be concerned about hosting financially or for any other reason.

Will I have to sign an agreement?

Yes. Our contract is a written and signed mutual agreement. A typical agreement lasts one or two years.

What is a website template?

Allegheny Graphics does not use website templates. A template is like a website stencil. It is often designed with no graphics or text—it is a pattern into which a customer must confine his or her message. A template purchaser will have to assume permanent creative and scientific maintenance responsibilities. Though cheaper than a custom designed website, your decision between a custom website and website template is the same as choosing between custom-built car and a do-it-yourself car kit. When a website design firm lacks creative esteem, website templates are rolled off an assembly line and into the hands of unsuspecting business owners and organization leaders.

Does Allegheny Graphics instruct website design classes?

No. Allegheny Graphics employees have been trained only as artists and programmers.

Does Allegheny Graphics support adult content?

No. Allegheny Graphics does not support any adult content. This includes, but is not limited to, pornography.
